Well most 20 year olds love cd. Find out his favorite music. they are also into ipods and games like playstation 3 with guitar hero. Thats fun. If he is a boy get him stuff for his car. or a restaurant pass

the future mrs kumkaut wisely says give him money, speaking as a former student herself and a mother of a 20 year old she says to put as much money as you can afford into a pair of socks for his xmas box. when he runs out of money you tell him to check his new socks. as you know all young boys and full grown men throw pants and socks into the drawer that were given as presents without being opened or used untill needed. also give him a coffee mug that has his team or favourite tv program on it.

get him something that the two of you can do together that will strenghen your relationship. tickets to something. maybe a trip some where. does not have to be far away. a road trip.
my dad never had the interest to get to know me.I did not care what material gift he gave me. showing him your interest in his life is the best gift you can give him.

Some kind of iPod is a good idea. I have iPod shuffle, it is not very expensive and good for working out. iPod video, too, but it costs a lot more and is quite fancy.

What bands does he like?

Are any of them playing near where he lives, you could buy him some concert tickets.

Get him to look on...

....to see if there is anything he likes

I've done the same for my brother and he thinks its a excellent present.
