As a Christian I think it is wrong to mis-represent any group.
Just like it is wrong when Non-Christians try to misrepresent Christians as evil, immoral people.and:
Do you think they do this out of hate, ignorance or is it just of case of trying to serve their own ends by trying to demonize those who don't share their beliefs ?

Definitely some hate... Monotheistic religions inherently contain an "us vs. them" mentality. Many people find this attractive.
Definitely a lot of ignorance.... Because people that suggest that atheists are immoral, evil people have obviously never met one, or they don't realize they have.
Personally, I don't think it's them trying to serve their own ends, although there are probably a few folks out there that think that way. (Pat Robertson comes to mind) But I don't think very many religious types intentionally try to "hate" atheists. They just don't know any better.

I think its ignorance and anybody that is different to all the straight and narrow minded religious people are always attacked. Your beliefs r yours to make. Iam a catholic and technicaaly am not proud of the catholic church. This is the 21 th century and there are far to many questions today on how we can to be. The times don't add up so what u believe maybe be right so keep believing in what u want. U are brave and more people should follow your lead.

All of the above. Usually the ones so intent on telling us all we're evil and going to hell wouldn't walk across the street to piss on someone who's caught fire. I meet other atheists at charitable events and programs all the time, along with non-fundie Christians who embrace a social gospel (Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Episcopalians) and liberal Jews. I've volunteered in several food and elder programs and I rarely meet fundies, though I see them volunteering in prisons a lot. The fundies are hands down the leaders in outreach to prisoners for the purpose of conversion and leading worship services. Helping them once they are out is another matter.
Consider that by dollar amount the two most giving philatanhropists in America, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, are both atheists.

It is wrong. Unfortunately there are good and bad people, no matter what they believe. Some atheists have represented themselves as evil immoral people, but that doesn't make them all the same. Some Christians embarrass me, like saying the tornado in London was the wrath of God.

Because of religions shaky ground, it has alway historically tried to dismiss, destroy, discredit and flat out set on fire and burn at the stake, any claims that threaten it's control on the society's mind.
Atheism and rationalism threaten today's religion by making it look comepletely insane. People that believe that god talks to them are labled insane and/or schizophrenic. Church practices are revealed to be more and more cult like every day.
The historical defense mechanism to this is to deny and demonize. But now Religion is on the ropes because people have history on their side. The world is round and we know it. But religion continues to call it flat when it denies evolution, claims a young earth theories, denies the existence of DNA, etc....

Everyone has a glimpse of divine like a bright diamond. In some it is covered with less dust whereas in others its a little more. But the diamond within does not loses its significance due to the kind of dust its enveloped in.

God is a source of undue pride by religious person in some cases, simply assuming that since an atheist does not believe in God, that their spiritual good is better that the atheist's. Of course, true believers cannot judge in this.

They're just trying to make themselves feel better. Do you know that the real meaning of "taking the Lord's name in vain" is not just the swearing but it applies to people who use God to control, abuse, or make others feel bad? PASS IT ON!!!!
I'm a Christian by the way...
