Go to your local records office, there will be plenty there.
For example, I've been researching my dissertation, which is about the Lancashire Cotton Famine, while I was at my local records office I found a diary by a weaver who was there at the time and letters from a mill owner to his son, and a lot more. At first it can be a bit boring as you've got to read through all types of hand written documents, but once you've found what you're looking for its great.
