Spanish is easiest to learn for native English speakers, and will give you a great platform from which to learn French later, if you'd like.

Rosetta Stone is the world's best way of learning a new language. It's usd by the CIA and other government organization. $330 will buy you only one language. It is expensive, but well worth it. I, myself, know so much about it because I sell the Spanish (Latin American) lanuage cds. They don't come with the manual or curriculum guide, but I have the links for those, which can be opened with adobe acrobat. I don't sell them for $330, either. They only cost $140. Less than half the retail price. If you're interested, or know someone who is, please contact me at bigj587@yahoo.com

I think there are easy and hard things about both languages. Spanish wins hands-down for easier pronunciation and spelling. French has more cognates and I think French verbs are easier than Spanish verbs.

As a Linguist, I'm going to have to point you in the general direction of Spanish here... There are less foreign phonemes for you to have to try to learn, and it's much simpler to read/write than French, thanks to my homeboy Antonio de Nebrija, a totally famous grammarian from 15th century Spain. Booyah!
