File > New > Look through the available templates for something that looks like a news article layout. Click OK. Type your article into it.

Sounds like your teacher wants you to USE MS Word to WRITE a News Article ? You can insert a picture, setup a headline (larger font at the top of the page similar to the look of a newspaper), Etc.

If this isin't it, give your teacher a call.

GO to Format in the menu bar and click on Columns> Select the number of culomns you want to be in your news article and press enter

It's what folks said here that it's a template in NEW/NEW DOCUMENT... TEMPLATES / NEWS ARTICLE OR NEWSPAPER ARTICLE...

but...

You can also download templates for news articles on http://www.microsoft.com/
