According to the Joy of Baking website...
1 pound = 2 1/4 cups
so 5 pounds = 11 1/4 cups
Also, if you look at the nutritional info... they'll list how many servings are in a package of sugar. You can multipy servings by serving size to get into the ballpark.

Since there are 8 oz in a cup, and 80 oz in a 5lb bag ( 5 *16 ) of sugar, there are 10 cups in a 5 lb bag of sugar

ok there is 8 oz in a cup
and 16 oz equal a pound
so there is 2 cups per pound
so it is 10 CUPS
