My hair is a dark red but I want true red. I tried to use an orange red and it didnt do anything to the color at all. should I try a strawberry blond color?

Try bleaching it first. That'll pale the color. Then, you can add a color you like to it. Try something with more brown undertones. That would look a lot better, and when it washes out, it'll look better.

Dark red is one of the hardest colors to lighten. You do have to use something to take the color out like a bleach. To keep from stressing your hair, have you thought about foiling your hair to add highlights first to see if you would like to be a lighter color of red. Any hair colorist can do this easily and it might get you to a color you really could like.

Go to a professional colorist and have them do it for you. This way you are assured of good results. You also might bleach your hair and then add a true red after.

color dosen't lift color meaning it won't lighten...just wait for it to fade or go see a professional and have stawberry highlighte put through it

go to a very good stylist because if you try to do it over the counter you will hurt your hair.
