With the next generation of DVD players and media coming out, i feel were up for a battle like there was with Betamax and VHS.

I was wondering what the main differances are between the two and which is more worth investing in.

I don't feel this is anything like VHS and Betamax. A player has already been designed which can read both HDDVD and BluRay discs. I'd say this is more akin to DVD-R and DVD+R rewritable mediums. There's a place for both in this industry and when dual system players become the norm, whether the disc is one or the other won't matter anymore.
