I'm pretty sure that the term ***** for cat comes from ***** Cat. ***** is the short abbreviated version.

I have used the word without the 'y' meaning cats, and Yahoo stars it out. Does it mean something else in Yankland?
I am sure it comes from the name of Dick Whittington's cat, P.u.s.s. in Boots.

Interesting question. When I was young, a good looking woman was often referred to as a "glamour puss" . The word then, obviously having different connotations.
