for those who're parents who allow your kids to say "Duuh" when they're asked a question- *Why* do you allow that?

I think in recent years, it's been "cool" to say it & generally accepted, but I happen to think it is Such a rude, disrespectful thing to say to adults.

What gives??

Thats the kind of talk you use when you talk to your friends. I got smacked when I said that to my mother.

yeah i totally agree with you...im not a parent but a student in high school but because i like having matters on certain things when talking to people i think its rude when my younger sister answers me that way...i wish my parents could ask her to stop doing that and teach her how bad it makes other people feel even if she's young. Its a bad beginning for her when she can't just say yes or ofcourse...and a very disrespectful thing.

I agree! Kids need to be reminded to respect when talking with adults. Might be funny the first time, but more just becomes annoying. Used to be a time when kids were seen and not heard, really don't want to bring that back now do we.

I try to give my kids freedom to make their own decisions. (to a certain degree)
I realize this is just a fad and it will soon pass on to something new. I agree, it is a bit rude.

I think a lot of kids like to prove their parents wrong, so they say it to sound smarter, but yes, they should be respectful to their parents.

It may be disrespectful in some parents eyes, but it means "Isn't it obvious?"

I agree. I said "Duh" to my mom when I was about 13 and got my face slapped. To me, "duh" is right up there with rolling eyeballs and "SO-RRY!". Makes my skin crawl. I am glad my child can't give me lip from inside my uterus. Anyway, there is a serious lack of respect there... what happened to treat your parents and other adults with respect? Grrr....
