APO AE adresses have the same postage as any address in the US. That's why they are APO AE addresses :) You only pay from where you live to NY (APO goes to NY, the other one to Calif). The military pays NY to Germany.

Monday, Nov. 13, is the deadline for sending holiday packages to troops stationed
overseas using Parcel Post to all Air/Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) ZIP
Codes.
The U.S. Postal Service is encouraging early deadlines to make sure that packages
reach their destination in time for the holidays. There are more than 80 military installations
worldwide.
“Mail is one of the greatest morale boosters we can give our troops during the holidays.”
said Postmaster General John E. Potter. “When they see that package or letter waiting for them
on their bunk or hear their name at mail call, it brings them that much closer to family and the
comforts of home.”
This holiday season, the Postal Service is able to make Delivery Confirmation™
available for almost all APO/FPO destinations. Delivery Confirmation provides customers with
the date, ZIP Code and time the package was delivered. This information can be accessed
online at USPS.com.

If you have an APO you pay until it gets to the u.s. base post office. after that the military pays for it to get where it's going. same with boxes. here's a tip. if you send a heavy box go to the p.o. and ask for a priority 8.10 box. there are 2 different sizes. it does not matter how heavy it is. If it fits in the box it only cost a flat rate of 8.10. it's a great saving for military families. Please tell your uncle thank you for his service

regular domestic rates apply. the only time you would need additional postage is if it were an oversized card( and the envelope would have it printed that add'l postage is rewuiored right where the stamp goes0

Nope! All you need is a 39 cent stamp and it should get there without a problem.
