Ok it seems that since I was a little kid I have been hopeless at Math! My dad and little brother have a real talent for it, but my mom, me, and my older brother are not big Math fans. However, neither are as bad as me.
Ever since I can remember, it has been A's in everything, and then a fat old B in Math to ruin it for me. Now I am in High School as a freshman and taking Algebra 1.
I have a 73 (probably lower now) in Math and I'm scared it'll go down even more. I try at Math but then I end up getting a, say, 70 in what I worked ard for and I feel like giving up.
Whenever I sit down to that Math homework or that big test, I ust cannot bring myself to study.
Let's say I know a test is a week away. I leave it all till the day before the test. Then I skim through the chapter and say, "Oh! I know this, this, this....." without actually trying the problems. They look so easy then!
But when the test arrives in front of me, I blank or choke. I forget EVERYTHING.

I'm worried because I'm in High School now and grades count for alot.
This is bringing my GPA down and is the only subject in which I have a C.
Please help! How do I strengthen my Math skills??
I even stayed for afterschool help and got a 68! On two tests in a row!
I'm failing all my quizzes and even my homework is in the 70s and 80s. Help!!

How is math so hard? It's just solving easy problems. As for Algebra 1, it's so easy. There's nothing to really memorize, if it's the same Algebra 1 I'm taking this year in 7th grade. You should do more practice and try more on problems. If you aren't good at memorizing the concepts, then you should look over it more.

First of all, your school sucks for grading you on homework. The school I'm doing my internship in says it's unfair to put a grade on homework.
Test anxiety--don't cram, get enough sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, don't stress, be confident that you can do this, if you choke--put the pencil down, close your eyes, inhale, exhale, and repeat if/when needed. But always remember to believe in yourself with math or you will fail.
Believe in yourself. You have a very negative attitude towards math and it won't help you. Ask your father and little brother to help you out. Go to your teacher and ask him/her what you can do or if they can offer any extra practice. You seem to be concerned and from my experience if you talk to the teacher and ask them for help before and after class, that will reflect in the grade. They'll take that initiative into consideration when it comes time for final grades.
You need to practice your math. You said you look at math in review for a test and say you know this and this and this without practicing. You need to practice it. Even if they look easy, try them again and again until you get it. Do different problems. Maybe you're dividing--divide everything you can divide. Divide whole numbers--single and multiple diget, decimals, fractions for example--so there are no surprises on the test. Pick problems from homework you weren't sure on and make a study sheet from those problems and do them as review. Ask your teacher, ask your classmates, ask other math teachers.
Yes, grades do matter more in high school than they did in elementary but don't stress yourself out about it. Grades really begin to matter in 10th, 11th and 12th--more so in the junior and senior years when you're preparing things for collage.
Just remember to relax.
Have faith in yourself.
Find someone you trust who can help you.
Practice the math even with you look at it and think it looks easy. (It may look easy then but you know it isn't when the test is in front of you!)
Talk to your teacher.
You may not be a math person, but it doesn't mean you can't do math. The biggest thing is to change your attitude about it. You are not hopeless in math, you just need some help.

For those who are not mathmatically inclined, practice is the answer. You need to be more disciplined with your study time.
Be prepared. Pay attention in class. Do your homework. Study for the test. On test day, you're more likely to feel like you know the material.
Expect the best. Once you have prepared, think positively. Say to yourself, "I studied and I'm ready to do my best."
Block bad thoughts. Watch out for any negative messages you might be sending yourself about the test ("I'm no good at taking tests" or "I'm going to freak out if I get a bad grade"). These thoughts can make anxiety worse and make it harder for you to do well on the test.
Accept mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Be more forgiving of your own mistakes, especially if you prepared for the test and are set to do your best.
Take care of yourself. You'll feel your best if you get enough playtime, sleep, and nutritious food. This is important all the time, but be extra-sure you get all three the day before a test.
Breathe better. OK, so you already know how to breathe. But did you know that breathing exercises can help calm you down? (Just try not to take in too much air because it might make you feel dizzy.) Here's how to do it: Inhale (breathe in) slowly and deeply through your nose, and then exhale (breathe out) slowly through your mouth. Do this two to four times and you just might breathe easier the next time you're taking a test!

Make learning fun, you obviously have a computer, so use the internet as a source to revise. Try WWW.bbc.co.uk and go on to the bite size programmes, these are really good for learning, and it also test's you as you go along. Good luck and dont worry. What will be will be.

Its because you don't practice. You think that you can do all the thing. This means you are getting over-confident. Its not good at this age.
