I know all of the regular fixes--properly inflated tires, air filter, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, new spark plugs, new cap and rotor, etc. What I'm looking for is any other ideas or someone who has had this happen to them before. I'm losing up to 50 miles a tank...I used to be able to make 300+ miles on one tank of gas, now I rarely pass 260 miles. I've even tried some injector cleaner. The engine light isn't on, and Autozone won't run the free diagnostic unless there's a light, so I haven't been able to check for any codes yet. Anyone?

Oh...this is for a 1999 4-cylinder Altima, bone-stock, close to 95,000 miles (but exceptionally maintained).

I would suggest

-Alignment
-Balance the Tires
-Check the breaks to make sure that the pads are not touching the rotors when you are not pressing the brake pedal.
-Check the fuel injectors
-Check the timing of the car
-Check the Catalytic Converter to make sure its not restricted
-Have you been running the A/C or the Defrost regularly?

do you always buy gas at the same place?? could be getting a poor gas, or they may have added additives to the fuel, I know in Montana some cities change the gas for winter time they add more oxygenators to it thus causing fuel mileage to drop.
Could have a dirty mass air flow sensor, plugged catalytic converter, have you put larger tires on? I have had pcm's that needed flashed updated...

you maybe don't drive at high speed like you used to. Or, try not to carry any uneccasary weight in your car, i took out some stuff from my car and the mileage per gallon increased by 2 miles. Lol. My parents have a nissan quest 1995. I'm only thirteen.

Ok you've checked those basics, how about the coolant level? if your vehicle has a low coolant level it might not be totally submerging the engine coolant temperature sensor, which helps in determining the proper air/fuel ratio. You may also want to have your catalytic converter(s) tested at a competent exhaust shop too.

You say that you maintain it with great care..You were due for a timing belt at 60,000. If it was done, is that when the mileage went away??? Not sure about Nissan, but, I have seen belt replacements done and the belt was off one tooth. Didn't run great but fair and the mileage was lousy.. Just a thought..

KA24de powa. I just think these engines dont get good milage, my 240sx is the same but rwd. I would think maybe an injector is messed up or extra weight. It should only be somethin minor though, maybe ur driving with the heater on? idk if that wastes gas though.
