This is more of a statement than a question. My african grey timneh is saying hello real plain,....I just noticed it is talking alot better in the room with the light out and the door open,...saying all kinds of stuff. It turned 1 at the beginning of November. I was a bit worried for awhile that it wouldn't talk. But am happy now!
Anyone else get as excited when their parrot starts talking as I do? It is like one of your children learning their first word? :)

Thanks everyone for the responses. I feel it is so amazing,... their intelligent level is like 5 year olds,..but they much more intelligent than that. (All parrots are) I feel that if every person who loves animals would have one, they would enjoy them so much.

My son is 9 and daughter is 17. I am married to a man that is 17 years older than me so I have 3 grown step-children and too many grandkids. LOL
But I feel like my parrots are my kids too :)

You are absolutely delightful. Yes, I remember my first parrot. It was a Timneh Grey like yours that I inherited from a Cuban owner who died.
He spoke spanish, so when he finally started speaking English, I was overjoyed.

Dana, you're so sweet to feel that way about your bird. It is said that the Timnehs are smarter than the Congo African Greys but regardless, both are very intelligent and in time you'll be hearing a lot of different sounds (phone ringing, microwave beeping, toilet flushing etc..) from your bird.

Yes, any time my birds do anything new, it is exciting and both hubby and I brag on their abilities. Now that our children are grown and have children, we brag about the granddauthers and the birds!

Have fun with your baby!

That is so good! And yes it is like hearing a child speak for the first time. They are our FIDS- feathered kids! I adopted my umbrella cockatoo, Kilo, when he was 3. I have had him for a little over a year now. He already said Hello when i got him, but now he picks up whatever we say. Sometimes, not such good things. If i yell for the dog to come here, Kilo has to mock me and yell at them too. If he sees food, he will give you that sad, desperate look and say, Want some? As if its his but i am just holding it for him at the moment. They are wonderful animals to have around, plus you can teach them so much! Good luck and enjoy it.

I hear you, the tiel I have talks "AT ME", His name is Vito and is having a hard, or great time driving me nuts, how he learned the words, "stop it" is beyond me. I just adopted a female tiel that unusually for females said what I think sounded like peanut butter cracker uhm uhm. Waited until I could get this for her, but when I got her unsaltine cracker male tiel, squawked or sulked, don't know, but this quarantine period is going great for all of us...
