The Inn on Bourbon and the Hotel Montleone are great places to stay. If you go to neworleansonline.com they give special discounts on French Quarter hotels. I hope you can find a reservation this late in the game! Good luck!

The Ramada on Bourbon is a good option. It's smack in the middle of all of the action and has a ton of balconies that are relatively affordable (at least by Mardi Gras standards). Ususally they book up several years in advance, but they may have availability for 2007 since folks aren't really visiting New Orleans right now. You're probably looking between $200 and $300 a night. But anything on the parade route during Mardi Gras is going to be about that much.

It's a small town, so even if you stay downtown, it's a short walk of a few blocks. If you want to sleep at all, stay downtown at Le Pavilion or the Sheraton; you can get a room at the Sheraton for about $100 on Hotwire, I have. The Moteleone is a great hotel, in the French Quarter. Otherwise, use Priceline or Hotwire and let them pick it for you; it's cheaper that way.
