I know they use sophisticated inverse sound producing equipment that cancels out the sound made by the main motors to, in effect, become more stealthy when approaching a target or something.

I agree with Spinich - they are usually used for special ops ONLY. I don't think a single branch of the military uses them exclusively.

Back in the 1990's, a number of members of the Patriot Movement (the folks commonly known as "the Militia" or "militiamen") claimed that the government was keeping them under surveillance with black helicopters, as a prelude to mass arrests by Chinese Army soldiers and Black and Latino gang members operating under United Nations command.

Needless to say, this was a crackpot story thought up by bizarre lunatic fringe folks who have an odd way of looking at the world.

Ever since militiaman Timothy McVeigh bombed the Oklahoma City Federal Building, the militiamen have dropped out of the spotlight - their craziness stopped being a funny feature story for the medial when people actually got murdered!

I was sent to a forest fire near Alberquerque New Mexico once. We had to stay at the mobilization center, at the National Guard armory. Inside a big hanger, they had 4 black, unmarked Bell helicopters(1 212, 3 206's) . No military markings, no civilian numbers, nothing. They would not let us near them, just rushed us through. I don't know what it means, but they were there. The military doesn't usually use black, so to this day I don't know what they were for.
