I often pray for spliters while knocking on wood - it's quite effective.

If you believe that God will answer your prayers, then you should pray to get the full effect; however...you should "believe" first.

Knocking on wood simply suggests you should answer it if it is your door you hear this noise. If you want to gain entrance, then knock should be effective.

Praying would open many doors whereas knocking just opens the one you're standing in front of. :)

Hmmm. Prayer is an act of requesting an imaginary deity to do what you want, while knocking on wood is an act of requesting imaginary tree spirits to NOT do what you don't want. Both are equally (in)effective for affecting physical reality. You should go with the one that makes you feel good about your own selfish desires.

Knocking yourself over the head with a piece of wood is far more effective.

Knocking on wood.

Depending on which wood you are knocking on, it could get someone to unlock a door and let you in.

Prayer is totally useless. It's a way for people to feel good about doing something, without actually doing anything.

If I was a percussionist, I would say knocking on wood. Makes a great 'clock' noise.
