Atheists think it is their mission to force the planet to conform to their image of 'rationality'? Interesting new religious crusade, I must say. Yes, atheism is a religion.

Religion defined as---
"A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion."

Is Dawkins your guru?

A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion doesn't refer to religion in the sense that it does with Christianity. Religion, in the context of that definition, would be used for exaggerating the significance of an enjoyment or habit in which one engages.

Like "jogging is my religion... I do it every day religiously".

It's not meant to imply that "jogging" or anything else applicable by the standards of this definition should be considered categorically equivalent to organized religion.

Religion is a belief system. Please demonstrate the “system” of beliefs associated with atheism (atheism being “without belief in a god or gods”, and anything beyond that is up to the individual). Remember: there is no atheist collective, there is no central atheist organization, there is no cohesive group with choreographed moves & prayers, no unifying worldview, no “atheist ritual” or “sacred atheist objects” or "atheist holy lands".

Regarding Dawkins..... I could listen to him talk all day long. He's absolutely brilliant. As for "guru", no. I just consider him, like I said, absolutely brilliant.

He DOES seem to be held in high esteem amongst the atheists on this forum. I don't know if they would go so far as to consider him their guru, but in any case, I'll just stick tight to Jesus. He's never changing, and I'm sure Dawkins will soon be replaced by someone new and improved.

Well, that's your definition of religion. And that's very bad definition because all kinds of things having nothing to do with religion will perfectly fit it. For example, mother's love for her child. Or even porn.

Better definition would be
"Religion is a system of social coherence based on a common group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object, person, unseen being, or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine or highest truth, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, traditions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought."

Okay, atheism is a religion.

Within any religion some adherents are on a crusade and some aren't.

I think it takes a lot of faith to believe a thing like Atheism. Yes, that's right, I called it a "faith", and I have every right to believe that it is such, just as much as any thing as I might believe, but what may be different, is I believe everyone has the right to believe what they want because they are the only ones who will suffer judgement for it in the "next world" (if you believe in that). Basically, making this world a better place to live by NOT killing each other over the next one, is what I BELIEVE is the best faith, for me anyways. As Thomas Paine said: "That which teaches man to be good, is good." Believe what faith you like. Including atheism :P

It is our mission to ensure that people are not ignorant of facts.

They can still believe in a god if they want to. But to do so, is clearly a sign of ignorance of said facts. The main reason for our wanting to bring these things to light, however, is mainly political.

See George W. Bush for an example of why we care so much.

hehehe! or if there is an invisible super being perhaps he/she set up religions as an intelligence test. if you buy into the obvious ridiculousness of religion you fail the intelligence test. only those who pass the test by questioning the validity of religion and refuse to be psychologically manipulated attain elevation to the next level of consciousness.

I don't try to force anyone to step over to the atheist way of thinking. I don't go door to door preaching my belief...I will not shove my belief or non-belief down anyones throats.
The only people going door to door preaching to people are christians....I don't have pagans coming to my door, or wiccan's or satanists or atheists knocking and trying to tell me their way of thinking or believing is the only way. Aren't christians suppose to love everyone and accept everyone no matter what? They are the only ones that tell me I am going to die a horrible death if I don't believe in what they believe in.

Religion: the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods.

This is the definition of religion according to the Oxford American Dictionary. According to this definition, atheism is not a religion.
