It's a Christmas gift, but she's moving into a new apartment for grad school and I thought I'd get her something for that. I am a girl by the way, this is my bf's account.

I would definitely go with something practical unless she is independantly wealthy~ some appliance for her kitchen, a set of towels w/ matching bath rug, some funky print for her wall, gift card to a local grocery store are some ideas.

a nice plant is always good, something easy to care for. Makes the apartment look lived in. Maybe a palm, or a philodendron

Money, so they can go out and buy whatever they want. You don't want to buy them something that they really don't even want or use. Everybody doesn't live the same way you do, and thus don't use the things that you would use. Give them money, you can't go wrong with money.
