I'm going to be flying for the first time in less than a week, and I'm a little unsure about what the rules are for carrying on gels and liquids.
I looked at TSA's website and it said that if it's less than 3 oz, then it's okay. My question is with the quart-sized zip-top bags. Do you put every item that is a gel or liquid into a seperate bag? Or all in the same bag?
Also, if you have any tips on how to stay calm, that would be greatly appreciated, because I know I'm going to be freaking out when we take off.
And, if you have any other information you think I should know about in regards to rules to flying that you would share, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Are there any rules about gels and liquids in your checked bag? Can I pack a full bottle of shampoo and conditioner and all my makeup without running into any problems?

You can put all your small containers in one bag -- the folks at TSA just need to see what you have, so if it's in a Ziploc bag it's cool.
When you get to the security checkpoint at the airport, have your plane tickets and picture ID ready. The last thing you want to do is rummage through your purse/wallet looking for your drivers license and hold up the line. Also, be prepared to take your shoes off before you go through the metal detector. They may not make you do it, but just in case you should wear comfortable shoes that you can take off and put on easily. Personal preference applies, but I would advise you against boots or any shoes that require a lot of work on the laces to get off and on.
When they start boarding your flight, DO NOT approach the door until your row has been called. The airlines have been cracking down on that big time, and some have even resorted to the old elementary school rule of "if you come up before your row is called then you'll have to wait until everyone else gets on the plane." If you get motion sickness easily, consider taking some Dramamine the night before. As for staying calm, remember that it's safer to fly than drive and just RELAX. Most planes have alcoholic beverages for sale, so get one if you need it.
Good luck!

I just came back from a trip and here are my tips. All of the 3oz gels, liquids, etc. have to go into the same quart size zip-top bag. In mine, I had about 6 different things from hand lotion to hairspray. You will be asked to remove this from your carryon bag and also to remove your shoes (so make sure you are wearing socks!), this is routine and everyone has to do it. Once you get through security, you can purchase water, soda, etc. to take on the plane with you, which i always think is a good idea to have with me. Also, you can take food on the plane too, as you are not going to get anything from them in terms of a snack, unless your flight is more than 3 hours long. Ok, staying calm.....bring a book that you are reading and once you get settled into your seat, start reading--i bet you miss take off altogether if you are involved with the book. If you arent a reader, once the plane pulls back from the gate, close your eyes, relax, take some deep breaths and imagine yourself somewhere that you are totally comfortable, that is peaceful for you and you are relaxed, happy...the beach, playing a sport, on a boat, and imagine yourself there and you'll be in the air before you know it and on your way to hopefully someplace fabulous. Good Luck--you'll be fine!!

You are allowed on 1 qt. clear plastic bag (zip lock) and you put all of your 3 oz. bottles in the bag. This is the way for the TSA to control the amount of liquids that you have with you, only what can fit in the clear plastic bag.
As far as staying calm on the aircraft, flying is an extremely safe way to travel. Most people like to close their eyes during takeoff and think of happy thoughts!
Have a great flight!

Liquid tabs should be OK, but you're safer with cough drops. Liquids freak people out in transportation security. To be absolutely sure, check with the agency that runs security in your departure city.

its all in one bag and I would suggest sitting by the window if u can, and dont close ur eyes cuz there are gonna be a sensation that u've never felt b4 so look out the window so that u can see everything is ok. concentrating on ur breathing is good, but dont tense up make sure to relax and u'll be fine :-)

Reading anything will definitely distract you! Also, dramamine makes you drowsy and calm, so if you want to take a nap it is very helpfull. Just stay away from the 24 hour version.

Something to help me stay calm is cheming gum on take off and landing. It gives me something else to focus on besides the safty lectures and actual take-off or landing and it also helps your ears not pop. Put all your items in one qurtsized bag.
