Can't tell you how much the ticket will cost you because it varies from city to city and state to state. Here in Michigan, minor violations like that run from $75.00 to $125.00 depending on the violation and where you are. As for your insurance, they CAN raise your rates any time you get a ticket, but that doesn't mean your rates WILL go up. Since it's a minor offense, I'm betting it'll only go up $100.00 every six months at the most -- if it goes up at all.

It will actually depend on how the ticket was issued. If the cop was a jerk, and issued it as a moving violation (for unsafe driving), then it will go on your record as such, and your rates will go up just the same as if you had been given a speeding ticket.
Now if he did was most cops would do, he just issued you a fix-it ticket, which isn't a moving violation, and would have no impact on your rates.
Just look on the ticket. It will have listed whether it's a moving violation or not. If it is, you can expect your rates to jump a few hundred dollars next time the policy renews.

That's hard to answer without knowing what state you're in. I would call a clerk at the traffic division of the Municipal Court where your ticket was written. They will always be able to tell you the Bail (amount of the ticket), in case you want to mail it in and not appear in court. Since it's a moving violation your insurance Could go up, depending on your coverage and restrictions.
p.s A driver without headlights on at night is the number one way the police catch drunk drivers. Be careful and Good Luck!

If its a moving violation than try traffic school http://trafficschools.blogspot.com Don't tell insurance until you have the judges orders. The ticket may get thrown out or reduced if not you may be eligible for traffic school. that way your record is clean and insurance will stay the same.

Yes, your insurance could go up. You will have to check with your agent on the amount that it will go up. It will vary from company to company although it sounds like a minor violation so your premium shouldn't increase by much.
