Almost 2 weeks ago now (2 weeks on Sunday) I had minor spotting. Now, my period is late, as usual, and I just thought my period was starting, but it was only minor spotting and then it stopped. It has been almost two full weeks now. I know that spotting can occur a week after implantation, so I took a test this morning (Friday) and it came up negative. Would waiting two more days until my "official" 3 week mark (as I have calculated it) make that much of a difference?

There are a lot of tests that "say" you can test up to 4 or 5 days before your missed AF. EPT, Clearblue easy, and First Response are the major ones. Please note they are assuming a textbook 28-day cycle, with ovulation on Day 14. "5 days before your period is due" thus really "translates" to 10 DPO.

The home pregnancy test (HPT) works by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG.) When an egg is fertilized, it takes about 6 to 12 days to implant in the uterus, and then it begins to secrete hCG. It takes another day or two for enough hCG to build up and make its way into your pee. So, generally speaking, the earliest you can expect a positive HPT is 8 days past ovulation ("DPO") and the latest would be about 16 DPO. It is possible to get a positive test earlier or later, but not as common. In my experience, if you use a sensitive "early" test (anything that detects 25 mIU/mL of hCG or less) you can test around 12-14 DPO and feel reasonably secure with your results (the later you test, the more secure you can feel in its accuracy.)

I will be the first one to say, you do NOT have to pay an arm and a leg or a pregnancy test!! The ones at the Dollar Store are sensative to 50 miu which is pretty dang good. I will provide a link to a site that runs comparisons or all the hpts for you. :)

If you want the most acurate result, have a blood test. You can have a blood test done from 7 to 10 days after you had sex. I would wait the 10 days though (IF you know the exact day, if there are many days, it could be hard to tell) I went in on Aug 4th for a test and it came up negative. Less than one week later it was positive (it would have been the 10 days).
But as for the home test, i would wait for your missed pierod just to be sure. It just depends on your body's production of HCG.
So, if you can calculate the day, head to the doctors for a quick blood test!!
Good luck

2 weeks should be enough, but your a person with natural variation. Sometimes it takes more. If we all reacted the same we wouldn't be human. And a week can make a big difference. When you do the retest use a different pregnancy test or see a doctor. Sometimes a particular brand would give a false positive for certain people. I forgot what is the standard time of the retest unfortunately, but there is no point in getting worked up. If god forbid your think of an abortion you got months and nowing sooner wont change anything.

If you have a question about whether or not you are pregnant, go to your physician and request a quantitative HCG test. This is a blood test which detects HCG in your bloodstream and will tell you for certain whether or not you are pregnant. This test is reliable and accurate as early as 7-10 days after ovulation, much earlier than even the best home pregnancy test.

Some tests can detect HCG up to five days before your period is due. But, the longer you wait the more accurate the result you will get. Also, taking the test first thing in the morning will make it less likely to get a false negative.

Good luck!

Probably not be anything is possible. The best thing you can do is contact your doctor and have the office do a test to detect pregnancy.

you can test 19 days after the day you think you became pregnant with an at home test.

A blood test will show if you are pregnant 7 days following conception.
