I just read the answer that turbo tax 2006 is not compatible with WIN 98. My last years taxes were done on a comp that uses WIN 98. When I do my taxes, info from the previous year is loaded to the current year, such as depreciation and such. If I have to use another computer how will Turbo Tax 2006 import Turbo Tax 2005 return information??? I copied the 2005 return to my WIN xp comp but it will not open because I do not have the 2005 CD anymore. please advise - thanks!

in response to your answers - my 2005 is on a win98 computer and 2006 turbo tax cannot be put on the win 98 computer so I will have to load 2006 on my computer with xp(which is at work) My question is how do I get the old 2005 tax file from my old comp to the new comp - forgot to mention that a:drive does not work so I can't just copy it to a disk and load it on my new comp. I e-mailed the 2005 tax file to my new xp comp and I couldn't open it to even look at it. Will it open after I install 2006 on my new comp. If I need the 2005 turbo tax installed on my new comp I'm out of luck as I didn't keep the disk. Also, is Turbo Tax going to let you print your return on multiple computers or only one?? I was thinking about doing my return on line this year rather than buying the cd again, but then I'm stuck again I think as they wouldn't have the 2005 info to transfer to my 2006 return.

I agree with webneck. If you have the 2005 data files on the same pc you load TurboTax 2006 on, it should transfer.

If you are using a pc with Windows 98 I have to assume you do not have a USB port or a CD burner. If so I think you are stuck with e-mailing it to work. I doubt any application other than TurboTax will open the data file. I do think once you load TurboTax 2006 on your work machines it should open the data file provided you have it saved to a drive as opposed to being an e-mail attachment.

I can not answer your questions about loading the software on a network especially one where you are a user and not an administrator. You may be violating some of your employer's pc policies by loading the software in the first place.

turbo tax files are operating system independent.
Turbo Tax 2006 won't have any trouble opening up and using the data from your turbo tax 2005 returns
