With mental illnesses or other psychological issues it is difficult to say what caused it or not. If there are other members of your family with the same condition it can mean that you are more vulnerable to it due to your genetics. This does not mean, however, that it is the genetics that cause it. It is usually a mixture of things (genetics, viruses and childhood traumas are but some examples) that cause a mental illness or psychological problem. Only 30% of the causes of Generalised Anxiety Disorder are genetic, and drugs can be used to moderate their behaviour.
Also, if one technique works for someone who is genetically predisposed, it may not work for another person who is also. The world of the human brain is so complex it is not known why many of the treatments even work. Take electroshock (or electroconvulsive) therapy, know one really knows how or why it works but it does. So the treatment isn't based on how the anxiety and panic related illnesses are caused (although it can help), but on what works for the patient.
N.B. There is a lot of evidence that psychological issues are caused by genetics, by studies done comparing monozygotic (identical) twins with dizygotic (non-identical) twins.

There are 20 of us 2nd Generation, ages 26-35, At least elev an of us are on meds, some occasionally some have been on full time past 2-3 years. 6 groups, brought up in different environments, All family trees some 9-10+ generations, family papers, diary's, documents, elderly relatives recollections show various details about each family's ailments, characteristics, no hints towards psychological disorders, only one aunt (epilepsy, madness) 3rd generation no kids, relates to 2 of eleven. What i believe is that genetically or biologically that a complete cure must be laughed upon along with your question.

I have suffered from an anxiety disorder since I was 8. I have gone through 4 years of therapy and 3 years of prozac. 99% of the time I feel great but I definitly still get small anxiety attacks.
I don't think there is a cure, I think it can just be controlled for a lifetime.

They certainly can be helped, but I do not think a complete cure is possible since this is an inherent part of their personality.
Some of the greatest members or society have suffered in this way and perhaps this is why they have developed as artists or scientists etc; We cannot all be 'Normal' we all have personality quirks of some kind. Better anxious than violent or megalomaniac. In my opinion I do not think a complete cure is possible.

i think they can be cured. on my dad's side of my family, everyone has high anxiety but no one has ever had panic attacks except me. but, i got a panic attack while i was high smoking weed (which i dont do anymore). i have an anxiety disorder because i smoked weed but also because in my genes, i am naturaly more anxious. anyways, this has been going on for about 6 months and i have greatly reduced the attacks and the intensity of them and i think that with time i can completely eliminate them

Through family experience I don't think that this can be cured 100% but it can be controlled with medication and therapy. We have taken my brother to experts and he has been through hell and back. With loved ones supporting the suffer and supporting each other things can get back to a new normal. In my experience it has to be a new normal.

Can you give sources that confirm your first sentence? I think that is a heck of a statement you are making and I would be doubtful that it is supported by any evidence.
