Someone told me a story that they had been pulled over for speeding on the Interstate with 9 other cars. I called B.S. I just can't imagine the logistics. Wouldn't the cars be hundreds of feet apart if they were going 85MPH by the time the police officer pulled them over?

I once got pulled over for alleged speeding by a cop who claimed I was doing 90MPH in a 50MPH zone. I live in NY and having a radar detector and jammer is legal. So, I decide to go to court and fight this out because even though I may have been going 60MPH at most, I was certainly not doing 90MPH when everyone else was driving at about 60-65MPH and I was not in the passing lane, which at most may have been going as fast as 70MPH. Anyhow, I appear in front of the traffic judge and state that I was driving during rush-hour traffic and due to the volume of cars and the fact that everyone was basically driving the same speed, give or take 10MPH, it was not possible for me to have been going 90MPH without read ending someone. I also stated that I had a radar detector/jammer in my car, which is perfectly legal to own and use in NYS and they cannot hold it against me, and it was not possible for the officer to have clocked me...period. The judge, being a bit pissed off about the fact that I had a radar detector/jammer device, still dismissed the ticket because first of all, there was no possible way for me to have been doing 90MPH is such a heavy volume of traffic, and second of all, my jammer does work, so the cop was full of crap in pulling me over.

He can pull them over but it is questionable whether citing all that are pulled over is legal. Assuming he used radar he can only track one car at a time. So, if you are pulled over and ticketed with others you may want to go to trial if the charges are not dropped or reduced to a non-moving charge. Question the officer at trial about the number of vehicles he ticketed and whether he knows which one he tracked on radar. This should make the point to the judge that he can only track one car at a time.

I pulled over 2 once, but it was only because the one silly car in front also pulled over when I was stopping another.

I have done it for years and I don't know of any way other than a road block

Yes, but can he issue citations for them all, not likely. Because his ability to definitely record violations for all of them would be impaired. He would have to be able to testify to each and every citation. Unless the officer could prove this in court they would likely be thrown out. Now if there were multiple officers involved, one witnesses the violation and another issues the citation then the number would be only limited by the number of citation issuing officers.

yup, there's an onramp to the freeway near my house, where it's a no free-right on red, but a ton of people do it anyways, and there's always a cop there, and sometimes he has up to 6 or 7 seven cars lined up

one single police officer can not pull ove ten cars at once. it isn't possible to do that. the officer wold have to clone him self just to do that sort of thing. you were right to call it b.s.
