I have a cat named "One Eyed Jack". She is so named because of that reason- she is missing her right eye completely. Born with this problem I was wondering (veterinarians) if it is possible to place a glass eye in the socket without any adverse effects. I'd still love her anyways if i couldn't, but for my own curiosity I would like to know.

I had a friend who had lost an eye as a child and had a glass one to wear. He chose to wear an eye patch. He said the glass eye was just not comfortable.
I have never heard of cats or dogs wearing them. Animals are entirely unselfconscious about their appearance and it wouldn't mean anything to the cat and could be a cause for irritation or discomfort for her.

I was just reading about this at the vet's office a few days ago.
Appearently it is purely cosmetic and most vet's don't like doing it because it can cause unneeded irritation in the eye socket.
I think Jack would be better off without one.

I also have a cat with one eye. She was a rescued kittin. Her's was removed though because it ruptured. Her other eye is odd looking. I'm taking her to a veterinary ophthalmologist next week. My husband has been asking the same question as you are, I'll let you know what the ophthalmologist says.:)

They make a product called "Neuticals" for cats and dogs, which are basically fake testicles to replace neutered ones. I don't think glass eyes would be much of a stretch.

Fake eyes are available but very costly, They are usually placed at the time when the old one is removed. Not sure if it can be done after the fact.
