Epilepsy is due to an abnormal discharge of nerve impulses by a group of brain cells. Fits are of different types. Epileptic fits can be triggered by high temperature, laughing, during sleep, flickering lights and other factors. Epilepsy can be controlled with drugs. Drugs can be stopped when a person is fit-free for 2 to 3 years.
