IT WAS ON THE DR. PHIL SHOW A FEW WEEKS AGO.
NIGERIANS ARE RUNNING THESE DATING SCAM USING SCRIPTS.
RUN!!!
I bet it's not a woman you're chatting with either. On Dr. Phil these women fell in love with a white man who was stranded in Nigeria. Turns out the white man was a Nigerian running the scam!

This is a scam but there is a way to know for sure if your conscience is killing you. Tell her you have made arrangements for her to receive the money at the American Embassy. Tell her you need her personal information like her name, social or passport number that sort of stuff and to take it to the embassy. Now contact the embassy yourself - as an american citizen they have to help you. Tell them the whole story and tell them that if her info checks out you would be willing to help her pay her debt in Nigeria and get her back to the States - (they are going to like that - good will in the foreign country and all that). If its a scam you will never hear from her again and the embassy just might want to investigate who in fact was sending you those emails to defraud you and other americans. If its true - she'll go running to the embasssy - they will verify who she is and facilitate things for you and you will look like a hero. Good luck. PS> just make sure to get a contact in the embassy yourself and work through them, don't trust some phone call from somebody you never heard of saying, "yes mr. american this is mr smith fromthe embassy please send her the money" (know what I mean - cover your butt).

Total scam. And not only isn't "she" probably not a US citizen, "she" probably isn't a she. If you got any pictures, they are probably lifted from some modelling website. Do not send money!!!! And just try suggesting going to the US embassy; "she" will come up with all kinds of excuses that "she" can't do that.
I almost fell for something similar earlier this year. I did not send any money, but once I found it was a scam, I strung her along for a couple of months, just to amused myself and my co-workers.
Check out the Romance Scams Yahoo group for lots and lots of information about this type of scam.

Not only is it a scam, but I would be that she has other guys on the line and she's just waiting for the money man. I would say that the only women I know of that have stayed in a hotel that long are prostitute drug addicts. I would never send money to anyone I met on line. The first sign of trouble is when they ask for money.

Shitt I wouldn't do it. I think it is a scam....I mean think about It. I really would not be surprised if it's a guy or even a scam company. I would advise to stay away.....and she loves you???HAHAHA come on man, I don't want to throw a rock at your head. I don't mean to be rude, but it pisses me off when people try to scam.
And John Doe learn how to fecking spell. We all know you not from around here, and then just got this account today, so what does that say???

Definately a SCAM She is trying to play on your emotions, if your having mixed feelings then what she is doing is starting to work. I suggest you stop talking to her. No hotel would let someone live there for three months without paying at least every week. Again, SCAM!!!!!!!!

Um it sounds kind of shady to me. I think the question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you are willing to part with $900 for the sake of helping somebody, regardless of whether or not they return any feelings or money. If you give the money, be prepared not to see it again. That way, at the worst you did a good deed....and at the best, everything she says might be true. One way or another, I would be very skeptical. Bottom line- if you choose to give the money, do it to help somebody, not because you think something might happen. I don't know man, tough call.

Yes, it is a scam. Heard the same story about 2 months ago from someone else on Yahoo! Answers. Save your cash and report her to Yahoo! People like that need to be prosecuted.

Sad story but sorry to inform you that to this old guy it certainly does sound like a scam. I'm certain that the embassy our her home country would help her return if she was to tell them this story. But if you were to send her the cash you may never see or hear from her again. There are a lot of sad stories on these pages and if we were to believe them all Christ we'd all be broke.
