The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?

I don't recall reading how John was babtized but it seems as though it would be from heaven since how he was a messenger of God sent to prepare the way for Jesus. There's two ways of babtizing. By water and by the Holy spirit

It was only thr precursor of the real baptism of the Lord and so it was Heavenly inspired but still of man.

it was remission of sin it was from God he was sent to lay the way for Jesus to come
