Your GMC Sierra 1500 was an older one either C3 or OBD1 computer systems. The 2000 is OBD2 you will need a code reader. Autozone will code scan for free but will not clear codes. You can purchase a code reader from Harbor Freight really reasonable $40-$60 if you want to read and clear the codes. they have 2 models make sure that you get the correct one.
