Rather than "Merry Christmas?" How about "Seasons Greetings?"

I don't care if anyone wishes me a "Merry Christmas, a Happy Hannukah, a Kwazy Kwanzaa, a Terrific Tet, or a Solemn and Dignified Ramadan" as Krusty the Clown would say.

It would probably also help if I could spell.

That should be "Happy" not "Hapy."

That should also read, "Would you be insulted if I said "Happy Holidays?"

Wow. The grammar police should turn me in. I guess that's what happens when I try to type questions to calm myself before presenting a case cross-agencies.

I would not be offended at all. Actually, I would be pleasantly surprised that you were taking notice of religious diversity.

Actually, I would respect you for realizing and acknowledging that not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas. Happy Holidays is inclusive.

For those who say, "But I'm a Christian. Why should I ignore my own tradition and say 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'?" I would answer: When you shop for a birthday gift, do you look for something that you yourself want to own, something YOU like, or something you think the receiver would like? Likewise, isn't a greeting about the person being greeted? Would you wish a Merry Christmas to someone you know to be Jewish? I should hope not. Well, then, when you don't know for certain that a person is Christian, it makes better sense to use 'Happy Holidays', which doesn't presume that he is.

It is a greeting for god sake! I do not understand what is the big deal. This is a Christian Country even though it has many other citizens of different faiths. Merry Christmas is not a curse word! People need to get over it and have some respect and answer the greeting with politeness no matter what religion they are.

I'd wonder what you meant by 'Hapy", but I'd in no way be offended.

I'd appreciate that you are wishing me well, and not either assuming that you know what religion I practice, or being hopelessly ignorant of the calendar: "Christmas" is on December 25th, not for weeks ahead of time.

Absolutely not. I would assume that either you weren't Christian, or you didn't want to offend me; neither is cause for insult.

If I'm the one that initiates it, I'll say "Merry Christmas." But if someone else says "happy holidays" to me, it seems kind of nasty to shoot "MERRY CHRISTMAS YOU SILLY PAGAN!!!1!" back at them. That's not really "in the spirit of things," IMHO.

David- you're sounding kind of intolerant there, buster.

I'd certainly feel more comfortable saying, "Same to you, and a blessed Yule" than I am when someone wishes me a Merry Christmas. Usually I get "the look".

Not at all. 'Happy Holidays' includes New Years, much faster than giving a greeting for each holiday.

No I would not be insulted. But I prefer Merry Christmas.

You still seem to have offended a few Christians who are still trying to hijack a pagan and largely pre-Christian set of rites and celebrations.

Strange how it is only the Christians that lack the tolerance isn't it? Somehow that seems entirely un-Christian!!!!

No I would not be offended to be addressed with any form of greeting at this time of year but I am highly offended at the Christian hijacking and intolerance. Thank goodness the rest of us nothing like them!!!

I'd be happier actually if you just wished me a nice day like everybody else does for the rest of the year. That way we wouldn't have to have this religious entanglement with greetings this time of year.
