A few Years ago I waited until the last minute. I took myself, husband and teen daughter to Florida for 2 weeks from ALASKA! The whole trip (air, room, car) cost 3000. IT WAS THE CHEAPEST I ever got....I booked it 5 days before we left. I can PLAN HAWAII and spend 4000 for two for a week.....

I've always had the best luck with prices booking in January. So, yes you should probably wait (especially since it would only entail waiting less than a month)
I've had really good luck on Orbitz and Expedia in the past.
Also, if you have some flexibility with your trip, you can get serious deals sometimes if you fly a Monday through a Monday (or some other non-popular travel day of the week).

To me, the price are dropping about 1.5 month before your target time. If you want to travel at the beginning of March, you should seriously look for the deal around mid-January and do so for about 2 weeks. In these 2 weeks, you will see the trend of your destination. If many are going down then wait, the day that the best deals are starting to go up (prices) ... then buy when you figure it.
Of course, you can wait till one week before the trip. You have a good chance to have a last minute deal, no travel available for your destination or very expensive package. If so, get ready to check in other destinations for last minutes deals. Many sites are giving a listing of the last minutes deals. I recommend: www.shermanstravel.com

I would avoid March, spring break. Florida is beautiful anytime of year, I live here, but even much more so after the Holidays.I'ts more affordable, and if going to any theme parks, much less crowded. You'll get deals after the holidays on airfare, hotels and rental cars.

There are some somewhat stable deals on now when you consider that is in basic terms 2 months till Christmas... in case you wait alot of the stable places might have their fees jacked up because of fact they are going to be so busy in this season. Myself and my husband are reserving possibly over right here couple of weeks and we plan on leaving December 28. stable success :)
