We bought a house together 2 months ago, we had our baby 8 days ago. My girlfriend was claiming tax credit on her 12 year old, will the new arrival mean a change to my tax status? Do I claim a 'married' couple allowance even though we are officially single?

Your tax will not change. The government abolished married couples allowance and child allowances a few years ago, now most people get the same.

It may effect other benefits and tax credits you may be entitled to though but you would need to get professional advice for these, I would agree with trying the Citizens Advice Bureau.

I don't think it will change your tax status, but it will almost certainly effect your tax credits. You need to phone the tax credit people to notify them of your change of circumstance ASAP so they can recalculate what you are owed.
If you have any problems or need more advice, I've always found that the Citizens Advice Bureau are really helpful and knowledgable about these matters, so it might be worth a trip there.

Does the UK have a "head of household" status? You won't be able to claim married, as you're not married, but even single with a dependent will make a difference.

No you can't claim that because you live with them, you may want to look into claiming head of household status.
