What is the difference between someone being attracted to you as a friend or as a lover?

I can't tell if this guy wants to be just friends or a lover. We have went out on a friendly group date, I have been to his house, and he wants to hang out again. One problem he has a girlfriend, he told me, " He will not marry her." To me it seems like it is a off and on relationship. Help me!
