yes. The only way to get the arrest off your police record is to have it expunged by a lawyer.

In Texas, a resounding YES.

Even if it were under juvenile status. My brother committed a crime in possession of a gun (silly drunk, doing nothing, milling around a campus after hours). He was told that his record would be expunged and to not worry. He did only a few hours in jail, and the scare was enough for him, all charges dropped.

Years later, he checked into possible career as a police officer (since he had good experience with them over the incident), and he wanted to serve the public. They still found those old records and denied him the opportunity right then and there.

Not in the UK is isn't. The only offences that appear on your record are 'recordable' offences of which you have been found guilty. You may even request to have your fingerprints destroyed if they have been taken and you are not charged or, if you are, found not guilty. And the time offences remain 'on the record' will depend on the type of offences, having regard to The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act which provides a sliding scale whereby after a specified period of time offences can no longer be cited aginst you.

If the charges were dismissed with prejudice, then the prosecutor has reviewed the evidence and determined you willnot be charged. If dismissed without prejudice, you will not be charged now, but if more eveidence comes up, you may be charged then. As of now, it is NOT on your record.

Unfortunately yes and you will always have to explain that the charges were dropped. but that just opens doors for explanations of to why were there charges pressed ? why were they dropped? pitiful...You can go to the clerk of courts and have them removed.
