Every one is saying 6 mo. but for my boxer/lab mixes I got them neutered at 5mo. which was recommended by two veterinary clinics. I am not sure if it is the same for cats or female dogs.

Usually we recommend spaying and neutering between 4 and 6 months of age. Especially female dogs should be spayed before their first heat cycle which is usually at about 6 months of age. Several studies have been done that confirm that spaying and neutering at a very young age (like 8 weeks) does not cause any long term health problems, but most vets like to wait until at least 4 months of age. I would NOT wait until past 6 months if possible.
Also, whenever someone says "spaded" it makes me think of someone hitting their dog over the head with a spade (a small shovel). Male dogs and cats are neutered or castrated and females are spayed (or neutered is technically correct as well for females though not generally used in the US).

The best time to have your animal spayed or neutered is at 6 months of age. This is an age where they are mature enough to handle anesthesia well, but havent yet reached full sexual maturity. Females generally have their first heat around 10 months of age, but it can be sooner. Cats often come into heat at 7-8 months of age, they just mature faster than dogs. Recovery time is generally about a week of being a couch potato dog, but they usually feel great after the first day or so after surgery. The trick is keeping them fom being too active so they dont cause any complications. If you have any other questions just call your vet, they will be more than happy to explain the procedure to you and what they rec. for aftercare. Good luck and thanks for being a responsible pet owner.

My vet told me at about 6 months for my male dog, as their hearts and bodies are a little more mature and better able to handle surgery and anesthesia. You also have to wait for their testicles to drop. Same with my male cat. I don't remember when my female cat was spayed.

Take your pet to the vet for a check up and ask them. They can't be spayed or neutered until they are at least 6 months old. So talk to your vet!

The correct term is "spay". Spaded would mean you want to bury them.

The best time to spay your female dog is before her first heat. Early spaying greatly reduces the incidences of mammary cancer.

Cats at three months, as they go into heat much sooner than dogs, and dogs at six months.
