Problem. Why would a true atheist even care?

Do you let a 2 year old pick or choose for themselves. No, they need taught.

Do you let a 2 year old push, hit, smack and bite other kids without telling them that it is wrong? No, they need taught right from wrong.

Does a 2 year old grow up to be a good person, because they know right from wrong? Maybe...but if they know why something is right or wrong, would that make a difference? Probably.

Everyone needs to learn, not just what is right and wrong, but why. When it is time to make that decision for what is right for oneself, what is the direction? What was taught and what was learned.

One cannot choose either way without questioning God. That takes knowledge. Knowledge to decide to believe or not to believe.

I believe. But I have studied. I have read. I have questioned. And I believe.

Christian means Christ-like. Christianity is not an organized religion. It means trying to live life the way Christ would have us. By studying who Christ is, it leads to a better understanding of how to be a Christian, even though no one is perfect like he is.

It is simply a choice, to believe or not to believe, derived by contemplation. Like my breath I cannot see, I believe because it is there. I have studied and therefore made my own decision.

I am sure there have been times one does not believe in something taught in school/college, before and after the study of said topic. What ground does the person who didn't study have to disbelieve something, compared to the person that did study. The person that did the studying has the evidence to either agree or dispute the topic. What does the one who didn't study have.

I am a Christian. I would love for all to live forever in the presence of the Lord. But I know not all will knowingly choose to believe. And one cannot truly believe without question.

About the term "atheist"...
An atheist believes that they "know" there is no God. To "know" without a shadow of a doubt that there is no God, they would have to have supreme knowledge. To have supreme knowledge, they would have to be gods' themselves. Thus, they cannot believe that there is no God.

The first reply is wrong. The main question has been asked.

It's hard being an atheist when you're being assaulted on so many sides by fundies and those who feel a need to spread their religion vociferously.

It's easy to swallow a tale about the afterlife and an eternal loving god figure rather than questioning. Coping with uncertainty is a hard thing.

I'm not sh!tting on religion, I'm just answering the question.

For me, they are the same and it is pretty simple :) What religion (Allah) chooses for me is the best for me. I do not need to worry about it. It is not like the choices are already made, but the parameter is already set. I only need to measure things against it to know if they are right for me.

It must be hard for an atheist, I agree :)

Peace

Picking and choosing, of course. It also makes us personally responsible for our behavior and morals, since we are the designers. It can definitely be a struggle.

But I think this is better, because even choosing what someone else tells you is choosing. And people are still responsible for their behaviors, and claiming a deity told them to be a jerk is no excuse.

What makes you say having to swallow what religion feeds you? You don't have the sense to just say no to it or ignore it or walk away? You maybe don't have the strength to fight it off or are just blindly being obediant? I wished we Christians had the power you seem to think we do!

It is much harder to submit our wills to God as He says He is than to decide what we would like for Him to be or not. But there is a lot of freedom in surrendering to His ways and truths. Also it is important to remember that it is about now this min and not yesterday or tomorrow. Now is all we have now.

Being stuck with only THESE two choices? that would be HARD!

Sure glad I'm not stupid enough to believe the choices are limited to these two.

Anyway, good luck with that.

To answer the question you aren't smart enough to ask them - (What's harder: following your own way or following a way by faith of someone else?) That would have been fair. IT"S HARDER TO FOLLOW SOMEONE ELSES GUIDE!! ESPECIALLY IF THAT ONE YOU ARE FOLLOWING IS DEAD. It's EASIER to do what YOU want to do than it is to do what SOMEONE ELSE wants you to do; if you're honest.

your questions is indicative of why most atheist (me included) remain to be the biggest dumb azzezz of all!

Between the two, I'd have to choose thinking for oneself, since the only effort involved with blindly following religion is keeping one's eyes tightly closed.

Both are deception. We cant pick and choose for ourself, we need Gods guidance. BUt, we dont let any man or religion choose for us either. Muh deception in both places there.
We are to hear Only Gods voice, read His word and study and let only HIM show us all of His truths. If we dont, we are in big trouble. Even in churches, you can find ppl to believe in almost anything, they make the Bible fit what they want it to say. again that is self, just like your first part of your question...
self must get removed and God only in, and then we find the answers we seek. Press on

You must use your intelligence, regardless of whether you are an atheist or a theist. Our intelligence cannot be separated from God. Do you actively do anything when a thought arises in your mind? Where did it come from?

Use your intelligence! It will lead you in the right direction!
