Sugar is part of the grape. Wineries pluck the grapes during season when the sugar content is the highest. In case of Chardonnay, the fermentation process time controlled. No. the grapes have a natural sweetness to them, but you never add sugar to a wine, as it destroys the delicate balance of bouquet and taste.
If that is the case, you might as well be drinking Boone's Farm Strawberry Wine

Most alcoholic beverages, wine, champagne, etc. do have sugar and alot of calories considering it is just a beverage.
100 calorie packs, something you can eat have fewer calories per serving than a glass of wine (which per serving isnt much...)
