Well, the Catholic church isn't terribly consistent on this. If you're an Anglican or Lutheran priest and you convert to Catholicism, they let you remain married AND be a priest.
It kind of makes you wonder how all the celibate priests out there feel about it.
Of course, there's no scriptural basis for celibacy. In fact, in Paul's letters to Timothy, he only states that a priest or a bishop should have just one wife. It wasn't until the 12th Century that celibacy became a rule of the church.

Roman Catholic Nuns and Priests take a vow of celibacy (which means, no sex. (There are other kinds of nuns and priests, some of whom can have sex, but still it must be - by rule - inside of a sanctified marriage). Gay Priests can also be Celibate, it is not 'having sex' that makes someone gay or lesbian. A gay male priest may be attracted to men (just as a straight male priest may be attracted to women), that doesn't mean they need to, or have ever, 'acted on it.'

some Catholic clergymen are married (those of distinctive jap Catholic rites). yet interior the latin ceremony the guideline is celibacy for clergymen. As for nuns, although, the essence of the religious life concerns the three vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. In making those vows, a nun freely supplies her life to Jesus Christ and makes the voluntary determination of doing this. In different words, no person is forcing her to no longer marry. to talk of a nun marrying could be a contradiction in words, like a sq. circle.

Hello Friend, I am Hindu and in any religion, all the nuns and monks promise God that they will forget all the earthly pleasures and desires for him, they dedicate their mind, body and life for pleasing God all the time.
Therefore, no real Nun or priest will have any desire over Sex, because in his or her whole life they will try to control their desires and try to please God through out their life.
It is very difficult to control ones mind, body whole life, these Nuns and priest try to restrain from Sex and other things which give them pleasure so that their mind and body does not gets diverted away from God.
The greatest thing in the world is controlling ones mind and thoughts completely. He is bound to become great and will go to God after he dies. Nuns and priests ultimate aim is to have control over their mind and body and try to dedicate them to God.

They are just people too. The can/will do whatever they want. Its a "free will" thing. Just because they are "Catholic" figures, they are no different than you or I. They just have some silly ideas about religion. Come to think of it, "religion" is silly in itself. Just seek God, find Christ and be a Christian. Leave the religion out of it...

I can only assume you mean "Roman" Catholic.
I'm a Catholic Priest (Anglican) and I'm married.
Vows are never "optional".

The real question is that did you honour the wish of the nun? If not, have you not decided to go to hell?
