Just make sure she is getting her eye exams regularly. A prescription of 4.25 is far from legally blind - my prescription is 10.25 in one eye and 8.75 in the other and I am far from legally blind. How old is your friend? If she is young (teenager or 20's) and near sighted, and it sounds like she is, her eyes may change very quickly for a number of years, maybe even until she is in her 40's - that is how it was with me. Then the changing will most likely slow down or stop. From what you have written it doesn't sound as if there is too much to worry about since she is getting her eyes checked regularly.

Has she been to an ophthalmologist? These doctors are specially trained in problems/diseases with the eye. Regular optometrists normally aren't trained in detecting the more serious problems that someone can have with their eyes. I would suggest that she sees a specialist if she is really worried.

She needs to have her eyes examined by a reputable eye doctor. Please make sure she's not going to a drug store or discount store for her eye exam. A good eye exam can tell you things like diseases which haven't even been discovered through your regular physical exams at your doctor.

Perhaps she should get tested for sugar diabetes?
