Most of the images we have seen of Jesus were painted by renaisance artists of European heritage who, I assume, painted Jesus to "fit" their ideal "look", ie.: being white. I remember reading a history book that stated that Jesus was probably closer to a dark-skinned, middle-eastern looking character.

Sure. My research revealed the same conclusion.

But, hey let's not put the M fah sis! on the wrong sill ah bull.

What really matters is not the color of anyone's skin, but the warmth and sincerity of their heart.

What is important is Jesus' message and his dying love for us.- Go figure!

The law of every government is: When you break the law, you have to be punished as a detterent for your incentive to break the law again. Sometimes, your punishment is to pay a "fine".

Why did Jesus come to Earth? Now, rather than the color of his skin, his reason for being here is what was/is important.

Oh well, I am sure you get the point.

but let me say this about that.

Harmony is its own reward. Disharmony is the most common sin against God. And, Jesus paid our fine, with his dying love on the Cross.

Jesus was born in the middle east, a Nazarene, and had skin that was in all likelyhood deeply tanned looking. He was described in the bible as being very fair, this does not mean blond...Fair was a term used in old times to describe someone beautiful, as in 'fair of face' meaning he was considered handsome. He was not black, but he was not white either. You are correct, most art work has depicted him in the ethnicity of the person who created that particular piece of art. The artists used what they knew about the world and what they had been taught to create an image. But like all art, it is only an interpretation. The real Christ never sat for any portrait, nor was he drawn by any of those close to him. Pity. But then again, not knowing what he looked like draws us together as a people, because then, he belongs to all of us, and isn't that what was intended?
Happy Holidays.

No. Jesus was a Middle Eastern Caucasian just like the present day Jews, Arabs, Persians, and anyone else living in that part of the world today. Afro-Americans also have their "black" Jesus just as the white Caucasians have their "fair" Jesus.

Yes, it is most likely that Jesus of Nazareth, the real person, was either black or at least olive-skinned. Like his parent(s), he was definitely Jewish, but modern Jews have a great deal of physical variety, from ebony to irovy skin, so it's difficult to say what his particular family would have looked like back then.

There's a bit in the Bible that describes how his hair was very curly, but it's unclear if it means the black "afro" sort of curly, or the tight ringlet "jew-fro" sort of curly.
At any rate, there's no way he was a blond blue-eyed Aryan type.

Yeah, that's just common sense.
Look at the geography, and the times, most likely, he might not have been of African decent, but DEFINITELY Middle Eastern, Islamic to be exact.
It's not like The Islamic Mary and Joseph had a British baby.

Lasamarilla, You are that naive to think that People from the Middle east are Caucation? REALLY? so those people from afghanistan, and pakistan, and heck even india are white?

Jesus was born in the middle east and those people are darker skinned with dark hair and dark brown eyes. Of course anyone who thinks of him would protray him as they themselves are, white, black, brown, or Eskimo. I see him as a rugged, well built man with middle eastern features. Nice to look at with a good speaking voice. I see him with a serious side and a great sense of humor.

Jesus was a Jew. His full lineage is listed in the book of Luke in chapter 3. Jesus was not black. But most people who have a problem with that completely miss the point of his teachings.

Read your bible and it says Jesus had dark skin and wooley hair. If you read into your history Jews were originated from Africa. American were not the first Jews. Read the bible, you will find out a lot of stuff that you didn't know because of white america tells us.

There are black Jews and white Jews depending on the dispersion of them...
But Jesus was from the root of the Jewish These people were basically a swarthy color..
Not completely black and not completely white...

It makes no sense that Jesus would be white. None whatsoever. Of course he would have been dark-skinned/middle-eastern looking. To think otherwise is completely illogical.
