I've used vehix.com to successfully buy a new car and a used car.
Also, you can try your local classifieds (depending on how far you want to drive) the aforementioned craigslist, OR www.ebaymotors.com, or you can try a police auction.
I would suggest buying from a dealership or auction since it's easier to exercise your legal rights. But, if you're buying from a private seller, always pull a carfax report (i.e., you don't want a salvaged title - you have no idea what you're getting).

You need to say where you are and the price range you're looking at. Foe example some may consider a $300,000 used limited edition Ferrari a steal!
