Maybe your mom and you can compromise. You can agree to see a mental health professional who specializes in eating disorders and see a nutritionist on an outpatient basis, and that way you can get the help you need without you having to go in the hospital. Even though you are 19 you can refuse medical treatment, but I would strongly advise against exercising that option.

Hi depends where you are... if you are in the UK you can be sectioned under the mental health act, by professionals, and admitted into hospital. The other choice is you can go voluntarily.
I hope that answers your question, but maybe what you need to be asking yourself why did you stop eating in the first place? For lots of people it's not about loosing weight but gaining control of their lives... There is a lot of help out there and it is possible to overcome this (I'm the living proof)!

You're being 19 has nothing to do with anything. All she has to do it communicate to the people at the hospital you are a danger to yourself and you can be committed against your will. I had this done with someone who was a friend of mine. He was held for 48 hours against his will, then he had to go to court to try to get out. If you walk into a judge a skinny rail and say you refuse to eat, the judge would not side with you.
Your eating problem is a very serious problem, and I believe your mother is simply trying to save your life.

Your mom can have your declared incompetent and could then legally have you admitted.
Before that happens, however, think of what you're doing to yourself. My daughter's good friend went to Florida with us a few years ago and I came home almost in tears because the poor girl would not eat enough for a bird.
she now is in treatment - and is doing much better - but it is a lifetime illness.
get help now - go to a trusted friend/adult.

Um, not eating is self punishment and can be viewed as self harm. Your mother is right to be concerned. Food exists for a reason, it's the fuel our bodies need to function. You can eat sensibly and small portions and still give your body the nutrients it needs.

Anyone can be committed to a hospital or psychiatric facility if they "pose a danger to themselves or others".
If she can convince authorities that you're mentally unstable and incapable of making appopriate decisions, then it's a possibility.
One solution would be to move out on your own, pay your own, buy your own food and then you can make your own decisions.

If your behavior creates a danger to your life, she is. If you have an eating disorder, get help and stick with it. My good friend died from this idiotic disease and it wasn't pretty.

There is a legal procedure to follow where a person who is a danger to himself or others can be involuntarily committed

If she gets a court order she can. Sounds like you need to get some help, your mom is just concerned.
