Well, this depends on how much money you have and if you have to mail any gifts.

If you are buying gift and mailing them, you need to do it now! You can order online and pay the extra fees to have the item(s) gift wrapped and sent.

If you are buying for friends and family that live close by, you can still get out now and buy. Gift cards are nice, but choosing a nice gift for each person is also thoughtful. You can buy a few gifts each weekend so as not to look like you ran into the Dollar store and just pulled whatever your saw into your cart or basket.

If the weather is nice where you live and you can get out and shop, do it! Get off the couch and get busy!

Would you want gifts bought on the fly?

I know it is the "thought that counts." How about actually putting some thought into your gift buying this year?

Don't buy chocolates or other things you can just grab from the local store in just a few minutes. Make a gift have more thought and meaning, regardless of what it is. A card along with it shows a lot of thought and good intentions. Good luck.

What: Pre-made gift baskets.
Why: There is no heart and "soul" put into them and I know when I'm in a rush I tend to stop into a drug store or something like target and get a pre-made basket. I usually get this gift for simple acquaintances.
Exceptions: Gift baskets are a great gift if you make them yourself and actually cater them to fit the interests of your receiver. A great example for baskets: "beer & condoms" for the college boy or girl but substitute the beer with wine. Or a basket full of retro movie candy and the receiver's (or your) favorite movie from the era of the candy you give.

What: Plain ol' gift cards in an envelope
Why: Again, there is no heart and "soul" put into them and it kinda shows you didn't take the time to look for something of their interest. Again, I usually get this gift for simple acquaintances.
Exceptions: Gift cards are a great gift if you incorporate it's wrapping (not neccissarily paper) with the gift card and the card caters to fit their interests
Example:"An assortment of fast food gift cards in a nice little retro lunch box." OR a robe and slippers with a gift card to a local spa.

Hope that's helpful.

Make yourself a gift closet and buy generic gifts that you can give on a moment's notice. I always stock mine with nice lotions/body sprays/shower gels, gift cards, small jewelry....

Each time you're out, keep an eye out for something small and appropriate and just stick it in the closet.

Don't buy anything at the local gas station. A pine tree air freshener, a quart of oil, a pack of cigarettes or a lighter will betray your last-minute shopping spree.

Gift cards to the person's favorite store are always very good choices. But, DON'T SEND A E-GIFT CARD unless you have to. Then they will *know* you did it late.

I can't really answer that with out knowing what the recipients like. Why don't you try writing down what you'd like to give everyone in advance? And then this time do your shopping one day early?

If you get them at the last minute, you can still get them what they like.
