Yes, I know that, "technically", the speed limit is the same for all lanes. I also know that driving faster than the speed limit is against the law. However, the highways where I live have 5 lanes and the traffic generally an average of about 10-15 mph faster than the posted speed limit. Honestly, the cops do not pay attention much unless you are driving recklessly.
Every once in a while, you will see that one person who is totally determined to drive the speed limit in the far left lane causing everyone behind them to slam on their brakes. Statistically, it has been proven that driving under the speed limit in the "passing" lane causes more accidents and is dangerous for everyone.
So why do people do this? Is it because they want to try and slow the highway down because driving faster than the speed limit invites the devil into soul? Does he/she want to be the boss? Does he/she not care? Is it a God granted American right?
Note: Does not include traffic jams...

It is called a sped limit which if they are doing it it doesn't matter. If you are trying to go over it you should get a ticket.

ive wondered that since i started driving. some reasons ive come up with over the years:
-they dont like people driving fast and do what they can to slow em down. if they only realized the futility of this action. theyre not omnipresent.
-they arent good enough drivers or r just too lazy to deal with merging traffic.
-they want to drive w the cruise control on n as long as theyre the slowest car in their lane, they wont have to turn it off n hit reset. to the last 2 i say its a shame all of us have to suffer for the few, but they r the types that arent ever gonna care about the next person.
-they r huge a h's who derive pleasure from others pain. thats why i never let the person going slow in front of me know that it bothers me. whether driving on a single lane or multilane highway. they aint gonna go any faster anyway.
- they like to see all the people behind them while almost noones in front of them. i guess it makes em feel like a leader. or that theyre controlling the situation. how sad that they have such little real control in their lives.
-in my state its a law to keep right except to pass. so many think speeding is breaking an important law but this law isnt. they can choose the laws everyone has to obey.
-the worst is when theyre going like 5 mph faster than the speed limit but still slower then the traffic to their right. i was a passenger in a car being driven by a girl doing this. i asked her why, n she said 5 mph over was fast enough. i pointed out that she was breaking the law, and was ok with anyone else breaking the law, just as long as it was within her perameters. like its her place to say to everyone, "you can speed, but only as much as i say". to her credit she saw my point and agreed w me, n as far as i know doesnt drive like that any more.

TO stay away from the right hand lane that has all the people who are merging from the on ramps into traffic...
Since slower traffic should stay right, that infers
that the person who is doing the maximum speed limit is "faster" traffic and is entitled to drive in the left lane.

I guess people that drives in the right hand lane tends to drive under the speed limit and don't want to go back and forth from lane to lane to pass them. I know this is why my sister does it.

There are those who take the attitude that since no one is supposed to speed, there is no reason to move over for anyone if you're at the speed limit, and no citation for doing that would ever stand up in court.
As you well know, the world is full of jerks who will do anything they can to annoy others.

Because they're completely oblivious to anything and everything going on around them. It's probably the same idiot who reads a newspaper, on their cell phone, or putting on makeup while driving. The same thing happens to me every day, but my commute is on a 4 lane divided highway. And it's always the same wench every day. I just want to run her big Chevy SUV off the road. I think they should make bump-drafting legal, just like in NASCAR.

I have arrived at the conclusion that those who drive large luxery cars receive a permit, with purchase, to drive slow in the hammer lane, the other's are mere wanna be's.

they drive slower because its the law...
but if they are so interested in the law they should get out of everyones elses way and not have such a problem with other people not being the same as them...
maybe they do it because they had a bad experience recently... or because they are self righteous religious types... who knows...

i think that some people that are intimedated by driving the hwy, like to stay away from the merging traffic from on and off ramps. and keeping only one lane open on their right would be more comfortable for them. this is not right at all, and should stay the hell away from hwy!

Because they're stubborn jerks and they are either
1.) unaware that they're blocking faster cars
2.) or they don't care, and they feel like the masses should slow down
So annoying!!!
