While gluttony is no longer seen as one of the seven deadly sins, I think that there is enough pressure on overweight people to lose weight that overeating is not necessarily unmentionable. After all there is Overeaters Anonymous.

We do it for many many reasons. Some use food as a comfort item, others to ease boredom. Whatever the case, we do consume too much and are raising a nation of couch potatoes that develop obesity and diabetes as early as 9 or 10 years of age. Sin? Perhaps in some eyes, lack of education and knowledge for others. Be true to yourself and you will sleep well.

I believe overdoing anything is wrong but some people over eat out of depression. We should not jump on to judging people so quickly.
Generally speaking, being moderate about everything is the best. This is what Islam teaches us.

Not totally. Many Americans are obese because of the lack of availability of real food. Everything is processed and unnatural.
But to answer your question, the subject is broached in a very indirect fashion. It is open season for fat jokes.

I don't mind mentioning it. I think our Thanksgiving Day celebrations are a global disgrace. People are starving right before us and we talk about how much food we can gorge on.
