My family was in a car accident back in July. I was driving my husband was in the front passenger seat and our 7 year old daughter was in the back seat. I saw the accident was going to take place and that the other car was going to hit on the side where my daughter was, so I turned our car to have the other car hit me instead. Thank God I did because the doctor at the hospital said that if they would have hit my daughter she would have been seriously injured or dead. Both my husband and daughter were fine. I got bruised and strained and sprained up pretty badly. Now that I shared the story now I can ask the question.

How long does it usually take to stop dreaming about the accident? I am continuing to drive but very paranoid that there will be another accident. Is this normal? With the snow and icy roads I am even more worried. It's not just when I am driving that I feel like this. I also feel like this when I ride with someone else. This was the first accident I have ever been.

Sorry to hear your story about the accident. Glad everyone was safe though. Your doctor is right, your daughter could have been seriously injured.
The dreams you are having are normal. You are also probably dreaming of what would have happened to your daughter.
No one can give you a correct answer to how long you will continue to have them. Speak with your doctor about it, he could set you up with some counselling to help deal with the stress. It is the stress and the fright you had that will make you paranoid when you resume driving. This will just make you a more cautious driver.
Good Luck to yourself and your family. Don't forget to give your daughter a big hug every night before bed.

I have an accident twice. I am still thinking on my first and second accident, and wonder won't make a third one. It is normal to have flash backs like that. I always have one like that from time to time. Maybe my driving technique is wrong. I learn to live with it, learn from what happen. How did I deal with it? I drive, carefully, to the point that I am very observant. I still drive and haunt by what happen, but with recent accident experience, I still say experience counts. Driving is a skill, no matter what advanced safety features on any vehicle has. I don't depend on my car, I depend what I learn, and how I started to learn.

that is a hard thing to get over just know you saved your childes life even though you got hurt just think if your child had been that injured or worse. you really should see a professional about it they will be able to help you deal with it to the point that you can drive and be in a car with out freaking out. Your feelings could get less over time on there own but sometimes they might just get worse the best thing is to see some one about it

Sounds like you may have some serious issues with this incident. I would recommend seeing a mental health professional. They can help you work through this. Hopefully you have not signed off on the insurance over this so that you can get financial help with the psychiatrist/psychologist bills.

I have been in 3 car wrecks. I think everything happens for a reason. Glad no-one was hurt any more than they were in your car.
It made me watch the other driver closer & myself. It took me several months to get over each wreck. These days one must drive defensive Everybodys in such a blame hurt. would rather arrive alive than dead.....

You can get over this by yourself, but it will take a while, or you can look for some professional temporary help. Looks like you have some degree of post traumatic syndrome.

I don't think you can ever fully get over something like that. If it now causes you to be paraniod about driving, I'd pay a visit to the psychologist. They can help you get over the fear, etc.
