Specifically. Number plates before 01 & 51 came into play.

I used to know one of my old cars, which was B***RDC came from Middlesbrough, as I found out RDC initially came from there, same as KEF & YDC, and the B designated the year (1984)

I've searched through the DVLA, and found all the new style registrations, i.e. TF05QQQ etc, but have been stuck trying to find out the older styles.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ta!

I know where you're coming from. If you want a plate with your initials on it, you need to go to the area with those initials and buy a vehicle. This only seems to apply to old number plates. I am unable to help you with more precise info and I do not think the DVLA will be much help either. They're in the business of selling special plates, usually at bloated prices. You need to find an owner somewhere with the plate you want, buy the vehicle with it's plate, transfer the plate to your own vehicle and scrap the old one.

The transfer of a licence plate rules indicate the 'from' vehilce has to have a current MOT certificate. You cannot resurrect a licence number from a vehicle that has ceased to exist.

if you have the V5 form (log book) it should tell you where the car was first registered.
or you could follow the link to the directgov site which has various pages on car reg's - you might have to search a bit though! good luck!
