Some are great, some are not. The only ones I have ever been to have been very boring if done properly (with the reading and ritual that goes along with the meal) and just a big family dinner party if the reading is left out. If you go to one, don't pass up the chocolate covered matza.

Peace!

This is actually a question for our Jewish answerers, but here is a stab... A 'sader' is a sacred meal shared, usually with family and sometimes by family and friends or just friends, during the Passover. it is a re-anactment, in some respects of the meal of the hebrews just before fleeing Egypt with Moses. Parts of the Exodus is read. Specials dishes are prepared that have great historical and religious significance. it can be a very moving experience. For more info, i suggest you ask any Jewish friends you might have.

During the jewish holiday of Passover, famalies and friends get together to tell the story of the Jews enslavement in Egypt, and their eventual escape from the Pharoah (see the movie 10 Commandments). Moses asked the Pharoah to let the Jews leave, and he refused. Moses brought forth 9 plagues upon the Egyptians but the Pharoah would not relent. When the 10th plague came, the killing of the first born male child of ever Egyptian household, Pharoah finally relented and let the Jews go. And then of course changed his mind, which bring us to the parting of the Red Sea (see Universal Studios tour).

The seder (which means "order" in Hebrew) is just a telling of this story, including prayers, songs, and ritual food and drink, which all have some symbolic meaning, in a very specific order of events. It can be a very fun activity, but also very poignant, because just like the Holocaust, we must never forget that we were once slaves, and what our ancestors sacrificed so we could be free today.

If your referring to the Passover meal...the entirety of the event is too great for this forum.

If you want a good outline, I suggest the following: Find a copy of the Artscroll Youth Haggadah. Can be purchased new for under $10 from Artscroll.com, or may be found used for less. Then, find a Haggadah with extensive commentary for a more detailed explanation.

The seder itself can be as fun or as dull as one wants to make it. It is very much designed for the children...and when the adults take that perspective, it is a lot of fun. but it's also a very late night with way too much food, especially matzoh, if one follows the guidelines in Jewish Law on how much must be eaten.

You mean "Seder" - as in Passover?

It's a ritual dinner explaining the deliverence of the Jewish people from Egypt.

Here's a wonderful website:

It's a meal. A bad one at that - too many bitter herbs.
