This sounds like a weird question, but maybe the police officers on here can help me. I have this fascination with law enforcement and being a female that's 5'2" and 90 lbs., I'm thinking I probably wouldn't have a very good shot of ever having a future in any "in the field" law enforcement work. ;) I've always wanted to see the inside of a police station, but are civilians just allowed to walk in? If so, what would a police officer do if you stopped by and said "Oh, I just wanted to have a look around?"

If you call your local P.D. and explain your interest to them, I'd say your chances of getting some sort of tour are very likely. I'd be surprised actually, if they turned you down.

And on another note, I have a female friend around your size that is currently going through a police academy. I'd encourage you to not let your stature deter you from the Law Enforcement field.
You'll have many tools avaliable to you to make up for the lack of physical size.

Goodluck with both situations, whichever routes you decide upon.

No, civilians aren't allowed to "just walk in" and wander around (for obvious reasons), but every police department has a Community Relations Office which handles tours which are scheduled in advance.

The Police station is a place of business. Your appearing there unannounced and uninvited would NOT be appreciated!!

Get in touch with the Public Affairs office in your city's Police Department. They will answer any questions you may have regarding visits and tours. It may be even easier if you arrange your tour through the auspices of a school, Church, civic group, or other organization in your city or county served by your Police Department.

Happy exploring!

Most towns will let you have a tour around the station. They would want you to call in advance though so your not just walking in and want a tour because they might have something really important to do so just give them a call and get an appointment for your tour!

Police stations are public building, so YES, you can tour a police station. Most police departments also have ride alongs, where you can go out on patrol with a police officer.

Definitely call ahead. Your police may offer guided tours to the public every now and then. Usually they do tours for school kids too.

Many police also offer citizen ride-alongs. I've been on two. Once for school and once because I had a friend who is a cop. Just call and ask them about it.

Many police departments have open houses once yearly. Contact the local community services officer to determine if such a thing exists in your city.

Call & check. I don't know about individuals, but I scheduled my Cub Scout den to go visit a local police department. They were wonderful. They "locked the boys up" and everything. It was a fun time.

Sure, just talley up a bunch of unpaid parking tickets. They will
be glad to show U around. Even show U how the big locking
door gate works first hand.

they should do it. I know my cousin is a cop and like said before you can do ride alongs with them. sure they will give tours if you call and ask. after all they want to keep good relations with the public.
